How do you check Ubuntu version using command line?

Answer

To check your Ubuntu version using the command line do the following:

1. Open a Terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal).

2. Type lsb_release -a and press Enter.

3. The Ubuntu version will be displayed on the screen.

Example

root@developefeed: lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID:     Ubuntu
Description:     Ubuntu 10.10
Release:     10.10
Codename:     maverick[pb_builder]
