How to setup wget on a Mac OSX?

Answer

wget is does not come installed on Mac OSX by default, however curl is. So when you run wget from the command line you get the following error:

mymac:tmp mvohra$ wget
-bash: wget: command not found

What we can do is create an alias calles as wget and point it to curl
So type the following on the terminal, it will add wget as alias into your bash profile.

echo ‘alias wget=”curl -O”‘ >> ~/.bash_profile

Then source the bash profile or close the terminal and open again as

mymac:~ mvohra$ . ~/.bash_profile

Now you can run wget as if it was installed on the system as

mymac:~ mvohra$ wget

curl: no URL specified!
curl: try ‘curl –help’ or ‘curl –manual’ for more information
mymac:~ mvohra$
<!>
